HALLOWEEN SPECIAL - SOUP & CINEMA Monday 31 October 2011 8pm til late
Screening ART HORROR SHORTS and 60's B-Movie thriller THE COLLECTOR. Based on the 1963 novel by John Fowles, 'The Collector' focuses on the obsessions of a young non-descript bank clerk Freddie Clegg (Terrance Stamp) and his object of desire - a beautiful London art student, Miranda Grey (Samantha Eggar). Winning a fortune on the sports pool, Freddie is able to pursue his psychological fixation and kidnap Miranda, whom he keeps captive in his newly purchased Tudor farmhouse.
A classic 60s psychological thriller, the film is directed by William Wyler, who turned down 'The Sound of Music' to make it.
'The performances of Stamp and Eggar remain sharp and mutually sympathetic, and when Wyler brings the story full circle to yet another 'butterfly' for Freddie's collection, the stalker theme leaves the viewer with a considerable chill.'
Plus pumpkin soup and Halloween cocktails!
