Emma Bolland creates fictive landscapes that locate anxiety and fear in the realm of the everyday. The installation Hansel & Gretel refigures the tale of innocents abroad to encompass the complexities of adolescent experience. Here, the public park has evolved into an ambivalent and even dangerous mind-space, where the habitants are divided into us and them: joggers, ice-cream vans, and picnics sit happily amongst the rose beds, whilst something more sinister lurks behind the brambles.
